Hi There I enjoyed your page! Quite creative w/ the tips. I too have a 2001 Santa Fe and just got back from a 15 day trip to Canada. Other than a few problems it worked great!  Really like the shelf and 12 v converter ideas. In the GW forest trips it appears as though you are just pulling off? Are there campsites that you are going to or are you just winging it? Love to get up there sometime. We are going to the blue ridge in Oct for the Garlic fest. Should be nice that time of year. Enjoy the camper, Dave

Hello Tim, looked at your winterising page, and I appreciate your input. I will drain the hot water heater through the water heater drain plug, just to make sure we have cleared everything. Also, although we did not use the fresh water tank, it looks like anything from the check valve to the citywater tee may still contain some water. I will run the pump to see if it clears that. Many thanks and we will be glad to see you next July. Ken Choate

We are in our late fifties and have moved from tent camping when our kids were young to travrl trailers, class C motor homes to our present class A motorhome. We somehow missed the pu campers along the way. We would like to get back to the simple camping lifestyle without going back to tent camping. We are looking. thanks for the good site........Glen Jones

Nice site. I have been pop up camping (Santa Fe) since 1988. I wish I had discovered your site earlier. I just got some neat ideas from you idea section, like the bunk shelf and the volt meter idea. I had a 12 v installed before they became common for my cell phone and realized other things could also be hooked up. Someone had said using space blankets on the bunk ends helped on the heat reflection. Any idea on how they were fastened down? Also I just replace the AC cover due to wind travel damage. I had never seen one of those AC braces before. If I cannot fabricate one, I will buy one. Keep up the good work as you can..

Love your site. Your trip reports and links are great. I live in Miami and Fort Wilderness is STILL on my camping wish list... I recently sold my 95 VW EuroVan camper and my daily driver 95 Honda Accord wagon and replaced them with a 2002 Kia Sedona minivan. I've done (we, actually, my ex and my two doggies)did a trip to the Florida Panhandle (Pensacola area)in the van, using supplementary tents. I laughed at your before and after photo. My ex is becoming a born-again camper(!)and he saw an ad for an Aliner, so he/we're looking around at pop-ups. Sandy Kramer Miami

This is a wonderfully informative and well-done site! And I thought I was detailed! I am an electrical engineer, and I have read every single link on your page.....I just couldn't help myself! I got our family into pop-up'ing this past year (8 trips) and I'm a frequent (nearly daily) quick reader of popuptimes. At this point I'm just taking it all in and trying to learn more and more. I thoroughly enjoy all the tricks of the trade and all the great ideas. Thanks very much for taking the time to prepare such an excellent site; you are really helping people.

I just wanted to stop by and say how much I liked your site. It is very informative and one of the best "private" sites I've been to. We do alot of camping here in Florida during our winter and spend a week in the mountains of North Carolina during the summer, which is coming soon. Boy, do I need a vacation. We stay in the Smokies at Deep Creek. The kids really love it and enjoy tubing the creek. We have a 96 Coleman Key West we bought used and tow it with a 2000 suburban. Again, thanks for the information. Scott Stewart

I have learned a lot from your web site over the last year. It can easily be said to be one of the most comprehensive pop-up sites around; and I am proud to have linked it to my own web site, dedicated to pop-up camoping in Wash. state. Thank You, Bret (North West Pop-Up Journal)

Hi! Love your site! You mentioned adding a CO2 detector in your Camper. But I could find no other info, such as WHERE you found one, and how much you paid! CO2 detectors are quite spendy, and not really available to the general public for less than $1200.00. You said "...CARBON DIOXIDE DETECTOR", did you really mean to say "...Carbon Monoxide Detector"?. I would like to know. I have been looking for a fair priced unit, but can't find any except in the commercial sector. Any info would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank You, Ron Morgan Gold Hill, OR

Check the thread about solar panels posted 06/29 by Susan White. You failed to mention in your Battery projects that it is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to store any battery, let alone one to be "serviced" on a regular basis. Tell your readers to locate the battery as FAR AWAY from the LP TANKS as possible! (it's WORTH the expense!) FYI-Thanks, otherwise for a great idea!(it just needs to "be" somewhere else on the trailer...)

Reply

While I understand your thoughts, it is the manufacturer of every pop up camper I have looked at that places both the LP Gas tank and battery in proximity to each other on the trailer tongue.

Your comments did cause me to think about the issue and I have updated the pages on my web site which deal with this issue to caution readers to use due care that there is no leaking LP Gas when connecting the battery or battery charger.

Thanks!

Great Site. Very Useful and resourceful. We have a 2002 Coleman Santa Fe. I'm going to try and incorporate a lot if your mods into ours. Especially the mods for the drawers, battery, RV plug and battery charge cable. If you don't mind, I might have questions for you. Don't know if you would give out phone numbers, but it would be nice to call if I get in a pinch....which knowing me will happen! If your ever think about coming to Montana, give us a holler! I am IMPRESSED! This is one of the most complete camping/popup sites I have seen. I tent camped for a while. Then I bought a really old Coleman. It lasted for a year and we moved up to a 26 ft. SunnyBrook travel trailer for 3-4 years. Not enough use to justify the monthly expense of a note and parking fee. Sold the trailer and diesel truck to pull it a year ago. I really missed camping. I liked camping on the side of the trout streams in Tennessee and Arkansas. I bought a 99 Coleman Santee (10 ft.) with AC/Heat/3-way fridge, etc. Now, I'm back into it. Yeehah! I started taking Popup Times last year. Nice magazine and nice people. I like your website. I've bookmarked it. Keep up the good work. Widewader

Great site Tim! I am a soon-to-be pop up camper. I have just begun a rehab on a very neglected '82 Scamper. I have stripped the roof down to bare metal and restored it. Over the winter, I plan on doing the same for the trailer portion. The poor thing suffers from water damage after someone lost the vent cover. Suprisingly the tenting (vinyl) is in very good shape. Only one place which needs to be resewn and the flaps which attach under the pull out beds need replacing. I have looked at many web sites about pop ups and definately find yours to be the most useful. I found several ideas which I plan to incorporate into the rehab. I will visit back often. DJ

Thanks SO MUCH for the fantastic information! WE just bought our first trailer (my parents had an old Apache when I was a kid) -- we got a 1999 Coleman Mesa. Your suggestion of what to look for when buying a used trailer was perfect. Also, the tips and improvements you have, complete with pictures and in many cases shopping lists for Home Depot are awesome. You've already saved me money by showing me to do some things myself, rather than having the work done. Your practical approach to improvements and campling in general fits perfectly with my outlook. THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU! Happy trails! Alan

You've read this before I'm sure but I love your site. We just bought a popup so we could comfortably take our children, Gino and Heidi camping with us. They are thirteen-month-old Rottweilers (brother and sister). Your "before and after" pictures look so familiar. We are now using a 2003 Starcraft Apollo delivered December 9. Three days later we headed to the Big South Fork National Recreation Area for six days. The "kids" loved it and so did we. Ken (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/redmondkr/index.htm

Tim, I don't believe I've ever signed your guest book, but wanted you to know that your site has been a great help to us since we bought our pop-up 3 years ago. I also Thank-You for all the times you've given me great advise on PUT's. My husband and I still enjoy dry camping even though we now have a pop-up, and it's nice to see other pop-up owners that also dry camp. I'm at your site today to check out camping in the DC area, since I remembered you were from Maryland, and sure enough you have information helpful to us. I enjoyed your doggie dictionary also, really cute. We have a very spoiled German Shepherd.."Mitzi", and she looks just like Natasha does in the face. Once again Thanks for all your work on your camping site information, and I hope one day to be fortunate enough meet you and your lovely wife. -Florida Campers Sherri and Phil Edwards

What a great website! I've learned a great deal from the content and the presentation is excellent. I love the way you use thumbnails to speed up loading. Before I saw her picture, I expected Natasha to be a Siberian. On one visit to our vet, he looked at my Nikita and grumbled that all Siberians are named either Nikita and Natasha. Your Natasha is a lovely girl. I also learned a great deal from your Camper and Modification Pages. Thanks for all your effort. BTW--I found this site while searching for info on the Porta Potti. Grace (mom) recommended your site. You have put an enormous amount of work into this site. I love it. It's a very informative and technically correct site. I have a dog Lightfoot that travels with me. Partly because I love having him with me and partly because if I leave him he'll eat the house. Everyone at RW knows Lightfoot. I'd love to know your secret for getting Natasha to stay at home. After two interior doors, half the shingles on one side of a new dog house, a large shrub and an aluminum dish I though about drugs but ..... :-) If you ever do a site on dogs let me know. WHAT FUN, MY BROTHER HAS A HARDSIDE, AND IT COSTS HIM ABOUT 10 MILES TO THE GALLON, AND WITH OUR WONDERFUL POP-UP WE GET AROUND 15-18 MILES, YES WE HAVE TO FOLD OURS DOWN, BUT ALL IN ALL IT TAKES US ABOUT THE SAME TIME TO SET UP OR BREAKDOWN. It's April 4th and we're having an ice storm outside. camping starts in about 6 weeks for us and a number of these ideas are going to be put to use just as soon as the camper comes out of storage. Absolutely remarkable. Thank you for assembling all of these ideas in one location. P.S. We also camp with two small children and an 18 mth old German Shorthaired Pointer.
